Die fränzösische Datenschutzaufsichtsbehörde, die CNIL (Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés), hat am 21. Januar 2019 gegen die Google LLC in den USA ein Bußgeld in Höhe von € 50 Millionen wegen mehrer mutmaßlicher Verstöße gegen die EU-Datenschutz-Grundverordnung (DSGVO) verhängt. Die CNIL wirft Google Verstöße gegen Transparenz- und Informationspflichten sowie Verarbeitung personenbezogener ohne Rechtgrundlage vor. First multi-million Euro fine for breaches of GDPR issued

On 21 January 2019, the French data protection supervisory authority, the CNIL (Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés), issued an administrative fine of € 50 million against US-based Google LLC for several alleged violations of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). According to the CNIL, Google has violated its transparency and information obligations and processed personal data without any legal basis. This is not only the highest yet known fine crossing € 1 million, but also the first clear turnover-based fine as the € 20 million threshold of Article 83 para. 5 GDPR has also been crossed (click here for information on other recently issued fines).
