Update: Liberalization of the Hungarian online sport betting system is now officially published in the Hungarian Gazette

After the vote of the Hungarian Parliament that adopted the relevant amendments to the Hungarian Gambling Act and Concessions Act on 19 July 2022, the amending act (Act XIX of 2022 amending certain Acts regarding economic regulatory matters) is now officially published in the Hungarian Gazette.

This means that, with a few but important modifications compared to last known draft (e.g. clarifications regarding payment service providers) the amended provisions of the Gambling Act will enter into force on 1 January 2023, while the amendments to the Concessions Act will enter into force on 1 August 2022.

Importantly, the final text of the decree of the President of the Supervisory Authority of Regulatory Affairs (SARA) is not known yet (this is not to be adopted by the Parliament), in that regard only the draft that the legislator submitted in the TRIS proceedings, is known to the public. The two pieces of legislation together will regulate the new online sports betting market of Hungary.
