Our presence in Italy

In Italy, the firm is made up of over 190 professionals based in Milan and Rome. The team is formed by Italian and foreign lawyers who have been practicing in Italy for many years. Our professionals offer all the advantages of a global team, combining strong knowledge and experience of the international business environment, with a multi-jurisdictional and a full service approach. Intellectual Property and Technology

Our Intellectual Property and Technology department is formed by an integrated group of experienced professionals in IP/ IT/Media matters, combining technical and legal knowledge with a thorough understanding of the clients’ business. The strength of this department consists in the high integration among IP professionals and lawyers focusing on IT, media, gaming and TMT, as well as the continuous collaboration among teams operating in other DLA Piper’s jurisdictions. Our successes are constantly being recognised by the main domestic and international legal directories, that rank the team in the top positions, as well as by various legal media players.

Intellectual Property

The Intellectual Property group manages IP issues, including the coordination of cross-border matters and litigation. The professionals have also extensive experience on both litigation and out-of-court proceedings in relation to patents, trademarks, copyright, industrial design, unfair competition, misleading and comparative advertising issues, etc. The team advises on licenses, R&D agreements, confidential agreements, promotional and advertising activities, franchising matters and, in general, on all issues relating to immaterial assets’ agreements. Thanks to the close interaction with the Media, Technology & Sourcing group, the IP professionals are able to offer assistance on regulatory issues, liaising with the relevant Authorities (AGCOM, AGCM, Advertising Jury and Review Board).

Data Protection

Our Data Protection group advises on all issues relating to data protection in many industrial sectors, including advice on all legal proceedings, disputes and litigations concerning data protection issues before the Italian Data Protection Authority, as well as complex issues arising from data management, data transfer and cybersecurity.

Media, Technology and Sourcing

Our Media, Technology and Sourcing group is a consolidated leader in all areas of communications, technology, broadcasting, gaming and new media regulations. It regularly advises major domestic and international players, thanks to an in-depth knowledge of the complex commercial and technical issues encompassing Italian and EU regulatory frameworks, directives and procedures. The team assists clients throughout the chain, from audio-visual content creation and production to distribution through online and offline platforms. The assistance also relates to complex outsourcing deals, from traditional IT services to new forms of cloud sourcing. It also advises on e-commerce, Internet of Things and data protection, as well as commercial and distribution issues for the new technologies industry.

Gaming

Our Gaming group has a specific competence in the gaming sector, including both offline and online games, which is constantly growing . Closely co-operating with the other departments, this team assists both Italian and foreign operators in any aspect of their business in Italy.
