Ireland: new legislation heralds the regulation of remote betting

The Betting (Amendment) Bill 2013 cleared its final hurdle in the Irish Parliament yesterday (5 March). It is now referred to the President for signature, which is likely to happen before the end of March.

The law is the cornerstone of the regulation of remote betting services provided by operators to Irish players. The implementation of the regime for remote operators will also allow for the extension of betting duty to such companies.

We await further information on the timings for the licensing process.
