UK: Government opens lotteries consultation

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has launched a consultation aimed at assessing how lotteries and lottery type products are offered in the British market.

While the application to the mainstream gambling industry is relatively minimal, given the monopoly over commercial lottery enjoyed by Camelot, there is also a section at the end that consults over “lottery-style” games that are actually regulated as betting or gaming products. Some of these products prove very popular for operators and can be good revenue streams for B2B suppliers too. It would be worth such stakeholders keeping a close watch on how this consultation develops.
