We have been discussing the online cookies dilemma in our previous videos. The debate will further develop with the consultation on cookies published today by the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali).
With the consultation, the Authority also provided some FAQs that shed some light on the Authority’s general view on cookies. The Authority confirmed its current trend to subject the cookies regulations to opt-in requirements (with limited exceptions, including analytics, authentication, flash players, “shopping baskets”).
In principle this consultation is limited to the “simplified ways” to provide the information notice to the users, so as to obtain their prior and informed consent. It will in any event constitute a valuable opportunity to the industry to provide a feed-back from a broader perspective (including consent through browser settings and other issues).
The consultation will last 90 days from the date of the publication in the Official Gazette. Please let us know if you need further information (firstname.lastname@example.org).
